Section 3 - Low corridor(s)
Low corridor is east of Stuck_Hyero. "A wormhole dug into rusty metal and torn pipes, the curving tunnel runs north and south as far as the eye can see. A [if the Electricity is switched off]faint[otherwise]strong[end if] light flickers through luminescent lamps on the ceiling. The floor is a sturdy grating, plunging into darkness below." It is in the Dark Corridors.
Low_corr_S is south of Low corridor. The printed name is "Low corridor".
Low_corr_N is north of Low corridor. The printed name is "Low corridor". "A wormhole dug into rusty metal and torn pipes, the curving tunnel runs northeast and south as far as the eye can see. A [if the Electricity is switched off]faint[otherwise]strong[end if] light flickers through luminescent lamps on the ceiling. The floor is a sturdy grating, plunging into darkness below." It is in the Dark Corridors.
Low_corr_SS is south of Low_corr_S. The printed name is "Low corridor, by the gap". "A wormhole dug into rusty metal and torn pipes, the curving tunnel runs north as far as the eye can see. A [if the Electricity is switched off]faint[otherwise]strong[end if] light flickers through luminescent lamps on the ceiling. The floor is a sturdy grating, plunging into darkness below.[paragraph break]The tunnel ends here." It is in the Dark Corridors.
Low_corr_NE is northeast of Low_corr_N. The printed name is "Low corridor - Dead end". "A wormhole dug into rusty metal and torn pipes, the curving tunnel runs southwest as far as the eye can see. A [if the Electricity is switched off]faint[otherwise]strong[end if] light flickers through luminescent lamps on the ceiling. The floor is a sturdy grating, plunging into darkness below.[paragraph break]The tunnel ends here." It is in the Dark Corridors.
A strange statue is fixed in place in Low_corr_N. "Backed up against the tunnel's walls is a strange statue. A couple of sitting [italic type]things[roman type], black like scarred flesh, crumbly like ancient artifacts. They are surprisingly human-shaped." The description is "The rocky formation really does resemble a couple of human beings, lean and hollow, seated side by side[first time]. You puzzle at how it formed[only]." Understand "statues/crumbly/black/scarred/things/thing/ancient/artifacts/artifact/fossil/fossils/human/humans/being/beings/sitting" as the strange statue. It is ambiguously plural.
Instead of touching the strange statue, say "It is rock, indeed."
Instead of taking or pushing or pulling the strange statue, say "The statue looks terribly heavy."
Instead of attacking the strange statue, say "You bash at the statue but it is too sturdy to be damaged[first time]. You only succeed in making it shed some powder which is eventually swallowed by the dusty environment[only]."
Instead of attacking the strange statue with something, try attacking the strange statue instead.
[The wide crack is scenery in Low_corr_SS. The description is "The pavement is broken. There is no way out to the south, unless one could fly[first time]. The sight sends shivers through your spine. It looks a lot like the underground hell you just fled from[only]." Understand "divide" as the wide crack.
Check going south when in Low_corr_SS:
say "The crack is at least five meters wide. No way.";
stop the action.]
[Check going west when in Low_corr_SS:
say "The crack is at least five meters wide. No way.";
stop the action.]
A jutting ledge is fixed in place in Low_corr_SS. "A jutting ledge floats over the void that opens into the east side of the tunnel, through a gap in the wall." The description is "The side of the tunnel is open and falls towards blackness below your feet. The ledge looks like a trampoline of sorts. Beyond the gap is a twin tunnel, [if retracted]at least five[else]just two[end if] meters out of reach.[paragraph break]There is a single turret on [if the player is in Low_corr_SS]this[else]the other[end if] side, one meter tall, surmounted by a strange device." Understand "trampoline/platform/gap/crack/opening/void" as the jutting ledge.
The single turret is fixed in place in Low_corr_SS. "Beside the ledge is a single turret, one meter tall, surmounted by a strange device." Understand "touchpad/pad/button/device/touch" as the single turret. The description is "On the turret is[first time] what you may call[only] a touchpad[first time] of sorts[only]."
Instead of pushing the single turret, try touching the single turret.
Instead of touching the single turret:
if the jutting ledge is retracted:
say "You touch the pad on the turret and the ledge starts slowly moving across the gap into the open side of the tunnel. It stops after a while, just two meters from the other side.";
now the jutting ledge is extended;
else:
say "The ledge retracts to its resting position.";
now the jutting ledge is retracted.
Instead of entering or climbing the jutting ledge, try jumping.
Instead of jumping when in Low_corr_SS:
if the jutting ledge is retracted:
say "The gap is at least five meters wide. Are you sure you want to try the stunt[if we have examined the single turret] before trying something else with the surrounding environment[end if]? (Y/N)>";
if the player consents:
say "[paragraph break]After a brief run-up, you jump over the dark gap beyond the retracted ledge. Your momentum fades when you are just in the middle of nothing.";
record "Impossible Mission" as achieved;
end the game in death;
else:
say "After a brief run-up, you jump over the dark gap beyond the extended ledge...[paragraph break]... And land on the opposite side, thrilled but unharmed.";
now the player is in Low_corr_SE.
Instead of going east when in Low_corr_SS, try jumping.
Every turn when the player is in Low_corr_SE for the first time:
record "The Leaper" as achieved;
continue the action.
Low_corr_SE is east of Low_corr_SS. The printed name is "Low corridor - Other side of the gap". "A wormhole dug into rusty metal and torn pipes, the curving tunnel runs northeast into a smaller instance of the same environment. A [if the Electricity is switched off]faint[otherwise]strong[end if] light flickers through luminescent lamps on the ceiling. The floor is a sturdy grating, plunging into darkness below.[paragraph break]A gap in the west wall opens into darkness. On the other side, an extended ledge is suspended over the void." It is in the Dark Corridors.
Before going west when in Low_corr_SE, say "You jump through the void."
Instead of jumping when in Low_corr_SE, try going west.
After deciding the scope of the player:
if the player is in Low_corr_SE:
place the jutting ledge in scope.
