Section 8 - The Freezing Chamber

The Freezing Chamber is east of the bulky shutter. "A sort of warehouse, this large chamber is filled with cases and wiring, all inter-tangling like cerebrum synapses. Large tubes come and go from crates and pieces of machinery, scattered around randomly."

Instead of exiting when in the Freezing Chamber, try going west.

Some littering_cases are scenery in the Freezing Chamber. The description is "Crates of all kinds, both in metal and plastic, litter the huge room. You can't seem to find anything remotely useful in them." Understand "cases/crates/boxes/litter/metal/plastic/things/littering/machinery" as the littering_cases. The printed name is "cases and crates".

Some wiring are scenery in the Freezing Chamber. The description is "Tubes and wires, all tangled together and forming an inextricable mass. They come and go from the crates, maybe sustaining or powering them." Understand "wires/tubes" as the wiring.

The icy smoke is scenery in the Freezing Chamber. The description is "It is ice sublimating into steam. The very room is full of it."

The ice is scenery in the Freezing Chamber. The description is "It's dark and dirty. It must have been here for quite some time[first time]. You wonder if there is a risk of bacteria releasing when it melts[only]."

Instead of attacking the ice, say "Too hard to break. It's like hammering on metal."

Instead of attacking the ice with something, try attacking the ice.

A large container is fixed in place in the Freezing Chamber. "A larger container -- three meters tall, two meters wide and deep -- seems to be left aside from the rest of the things littering the place." The description is "A large metal and glass container, from which freezing smoke descends like a cheap cinema effect. Bulky hoses are plugged into its sides. A sort of porthole opens in its side." Understand "glass/steel" as the large container.

Some hoses are part of the large container. The description is "The hoses are covered by ice, as is all the rest of the machinery in here. They are plugged -- and welded -- to the large container."

Instead of taking or pulling or pushing or turning the hoses, say "You can't unplug them."

A porthole is part of the large container. The description is "A small window, looking inside the container, partly covered in ice and dirt." Understand "window/hole" as the porthole.

Instead of searching the porthole, say "[first time]There is something inside.[paragraph break][only]A sort of creature, frozen still, is held captive inside the container. All you can see through the small porthole is what looks like an eye, at least ten centimeters wide, covered by several curtains of brownish skin, and part of... a mouth. Within, dozens of teeth, like rusty nails, crowd in anger[first time].[paragraph break][italic type]What the HELL is this?![roman type] you mutter to yourself.[paragraph break]You are not alone on this trip, it seems[only]."

Instead of rubbing the porthole:

say "You rub at the porthole, then look inside.";

try searching the porthole.

Instead of searching the large container, try searching the porthole.

Instead of attacking the large container, say "The container is sturdy, maybe designed to keep things safe inside."

Instead of attacking the large container with something, try attacking the large container.

Instead of opening the large container, say "There is no opening. The container is fastened shut by means unknown."

Instead of taking, pushing or pulling the large container, say "The thing is too big to move. And the ice has welded it to the ground."

The frozen creature is scenery in the Freezing Chamber. The description is "You have never seen anything like this. [first time]Not even in those silly Gettare Rinors['] movies. [only]The eye is the size of a handball, and the thing may well possess ten of those. The teeth, crowding that gaping hole of a mouth, are blades of bone. They number in the hundreds. Your scientific beliefs are seriously shaken by the sight." Understand "eye/curtains/skin/mouth/teeth/nails/rusty/beast/alien" as the frozen creature. It is ambiguously plural.

Instead of doing something except examining to the frozen creature, say "It is securely closed inside the large container."

Every turn when the player is in the Freezing chamber:

if the player is not wearing the white jumpsuit:

say "[one of]It is very cold in here. The air must be well below freezing. You can barely breathe.[or]The intense cold starts crawling under your exposed skin.[or]You begin shaking for the unbearable cold.[or]The first signs of frostbite begin tearing through your skin.[or]Your arms and legs are becoming numb. It's better you get out of here, now.[or][cycling]".

Every turn when the player is in the Freezing Chamber for six turns:

if the player is not wearing the white jumpsuit:

say "The cold gets in.[paragraph break]The last thing you feel is your own eyes turning into icicles.";

record "Titanic" as achieved;

end the game in death.

After going west from the Freezing chamber:

if the player is not wearing the white jumpsuit:

say "You get out and in a few moments you feel warm again[first time]. You wonder how this could have happened so fast[only].";

continue the action.
