Section 7 - The Thousand Lights Room

The Thousand Lights Room is north of the Chess Room. "A six-sided room[first time], again[only]. Each wall is covered in a myriad of tiny bulbs, each one the size of a bee's eye. Most of the lights are [if LOGAN is switched on]on, drawing patterns and ungraspable designs[otherwise]off[end if]. On the east wall, a ten-by-twenty centimeter spot just below a small viewscreen bears a series of five symbols, printed in an obscure, alien language. The room is then empty, except for a large cubic device placed against its northern wall[if LOGAN is aware].[paragraph break]A hologram, hovering on the device's top, depicts a galaxy[else if LOGAN is interested].[paragraph break]A hologram on the device shows a couple of human beings[else if LOGAN is knowing].[paragraph break]The hologram on the device shows -- unmistakably -- a Hyerotrope[end if]."

Some tiny bulbs are scenery in the Thousand lights room. Understand "lights/myriad/bulb/light" as the tiny bulbs. The description is "The bulbs are small but very bright, nonetheless."

The viewscreen is scenery in the Thousand Lights Room. The description is "[if LOGAN is switched off]The viewscreen is currently off[else if LOGAN is stupid]The viewscreen shows a big, green eye[else if LOGAN is knowing]The viewscreen is filled with alien diagrams[else]The viewscreen shows an eye, followed by an arrow pointing to a mouth[end if]." Understand "view/screen/monitor/eye/mouth/arrow/green/small" as the viewscreen.

The label is scenery in the Thousand Lights Room. The description is "[If LOGAN is not named]A series of five symbols, printed in a language you don't comprehend. Obviously alien[otherwise]The five symbols must mean LOGAN in a language you can't grasp[first time]. Given the time you could try and learn a new alphabet, but the impending supernova is more of a concern, now[only][end if]." Understand "symbols/five/spot/symbol" as the label.

The large cubic device is scenery in the Thousand Lights Room. It is a supporter. The description is "[if LOGAN is switched off]It looks like an examination table[else if LOGAN is stupid]A cone of green light goes from the ceiling to the table's top. Inside it, a smaller beam runs to cover all its surface. It reminds you of a 3D scanner you once toyed with in Brouguoise[else if LOGAN is aware]The hologram hovering on the device's top looks like... the galaxy of Andromeda[else if LOGAN is interested]The hologram now shows a couple of human beings, probably a man and a woman, depicted in a rough style. They seem to be holding each others['] hands[else if LOGAN is knowing]The hologram shows -- unmistakably -- a Hyerotrope[end if]." Understand "examination/table/machine/hologram/picture/humans/hyerotrope/beam/cone/light/green/galaxy/andromeda/human/beings/man/woman/hand/hands/image/cube/laser/image/something/holographic/smaller/dark" as the large cubic device.

Before entering the large cubic device:

say "The table wouldn't sustain your weight, you guess";

stop the action.

Instead of touching the large cubic device: say "[if LOGAN is switched off]The table is cold as ice[else]You hand passes through the green light, grasping nothing[end if]."

Every turn when the player is in the Thousand Lights Room for three turns:

if LOGAN is switched off:

now LOGAN is switched on;

say "A[if we have examined the chess players]nother, stronger[end if] beep fills the room. All of a sudden, many of the dormant lights come to life and the whole room is turned into a dance floor. The air starts circulating -- probably the air conditioning kicking in -- and something appears above the large cubic device and on the small viewscreen."
