Section 14 - The Docks

Docks is west of Mouthwhale and southwest of Hangar_N and northwest of Hangar_S. "The mouth of the ship is open and shouting at the universe. All of the bulkheads are retracted, leaving a unique sight for your sore eyes. In absence of an atmosphere, the sky is crystalline and every shadow is intense as if painted with a black varnish. A soft wind caresses your skin and you shiver at the thought of its origin[first time].[paragraph break][italic type]I'm breathing and feeling warm in actual absence of an atmosphere. This is beyond science. It's magic, [roman type]you consider[only]." It is in the Bay Area.

A foundered ship is fixed in place in the Docks. "The remnants of[first time] what you'd call[only] a foundered ship are jabbed into the pavement near the open bay. A broken wing emerges from the metal floor like a rampaging shark aimed at a flying prey." Understand "remnants/remnant/grounded/relict/shuttle/jabbed" as the foundered ship. The description is "You wonder what could have grounded this ship -- a mistake during the docking sequence? a drunk pilot? What you know is that the impact must have been very strong, as the ship has penetrated the bay's floor for over ten meters.[paragraph break]A broken wing pops out of the floor near the shuttle carcass."

Instead of taking or pushing or pulling or turning the foundered ship, say "The ship won't budge, as you would have thought."

Instead of entering or climbing the foundered ship, say "The only visible entrance is half buried under the floor, in the place where the ship collided with the metal structure of the docks."

The broken wing is part of the foundered ship. The description is "The wing pops out of the ground. A compartment stands open just at the point where it encounters the main body of the foundered ship." Understand "atilt/shark/rampaging/aiming/flying/prey" as the broken wing.

Instead of taking or pushing or pulling or turning the the broken wing, say "The wing is well stuck into the floor."

Instead of climbing the broken wing, say "You begin crawling over the atilt wing, but soon discover it would need the courage and the prowess of an acrobat."

The compartment is part of the broken wing. It is an open container.

Instead of opening or closing the compartment, say "There is no lid: it probably flew off during the accident."

Instead of entering the compartment, say "There is not enough space for a grown up man to fit the compartment."

A translucid bar is in the compartment. The description is "The bar is one-and-a-half meters long. Its surface is glossy[if the translucid bar is novalit]. It is glowing intensely[else if the translucid bar is novawarm]. It is radiating intense heat[end if]."

Before taking the translucid bar for the first time:

deactivate the Table of FindingBar Hints;

continue the action.

Docks_N is north of Docks and west of Hangar_N and northwest of MouthWhale. The printed name is "Docks, north". It is in the Bay Area. "[First time]After a -- long -- walk, you reach this corner of the docks area.[paragraph break][only]This is the northernmost side of the giant mouth opening into the sky. There is nothing here but debris and piles of broken crates."

Docks_S is south of Docks and west of Hangar_S and southwest of MouthWhale. The printed name is "Docks, south". It is in the Bay Area. "[First time]After a -- long -- walk, you reach this corner of the docks area.[paragraph break][only]This is the southernmost side of the giant mouth opening into the sky. Apart from broken equipment and trashed boxes, the place is worthless."

The forgotten cabinet is fixed in place in Docks_S. It is a closed openable container. "[First time]Or maybe not.[paragraph break][only]In the darkest corner of the hangar, a solitary, forgotten cabinet stands evidence of a former life." The description is "The cabinet is made from plastic, maybe the only thing that could have survived in this place." Understand "solitary/plastic/evidence" as the forgotten cabinet.

Instead of taking or pushing or pulling or turning the forgotten cabinet, say "The cabinet seems to be firmly fixed in place."

The white jumpsuit is in the forgotten cabinet. It is wearable. The description is "[if the jumpsuit is worn by the player]The jumpsuit is dirty and crinkled, but it serves well in a pinch. It is just your size.[first time] Talk about luck, huh?[only][else]An old-as-time white jumpsuit, incredibly dusty and crinkled.[end if]". Understand "suit/dirty/crinkled/old/old-as-time" as the white jumpsuit.

After wearing the white jumpsuit, say "You push yourself inside the jumpsuit[first time]. It fits perfectly[only]."

After taking off the white jumpsuit, say "You pull yourself out of the jumpsuit. Whew, it was hot in there!".
