Chapter 2 - The Erudition

Section 1 - Running up the engine

LOGAN has a number called the erudition. Definition: LOGAN is aware if its erudition is 1. Definition: LOGAN is interested if its erudition is 2. Definition: LOGAN is knowing if its erudition is 3. Definition: LOGAN is named if its erudition is 1 or more. Definition: LOGAN is stupid if its erudition is 0.

LOGAN has a number called the hint_launch. The hint_launch of LOGAN is 6.

Instead of inserting something into the large cubic device, try putting the noun on the large cubic device.

Instead of putting something (called the missed) on the large cubic device when LOGAN is switched off:

if the missed is a backdrop or the missed is scenery or the missed is fixed in place:

say "You simply can't do that.";

otherwise:

say "You put [the missed] on the device, but nothing happens. You get it back."

Instead of putting something (called the query) on the large cubic device when LOGAN is switched on:

if the query is a backdrop or the query is scenery or the query is fixed in place:

say "You simply can't do that.";

stop the action;

if there is something (called the ingombro) on the large cubic device:

say "[The ingombro] is on the table. You must free some space.";

stop the action;

else if the query is the golden disc and LOGAN is stupid:

increase the erudition of LOGAN by 1;

now the golden disc is on the large cubic device;

say "Hesitantly, you put the golden disc onto the table's top. As soon as you retract your arms, the green beam starts covering the disc's surface, scanning it in the process. When it's done, a metallic voice comes out of somewhere:[paragraph break]LOGAN://'Galaxy Ex-NOVA -- -cal. Ghjugaak, hysndee akim akimaa tota'//[paragraph break]A series of sounds follows -- waves, wind, thunder -- then you can slowly hear some... music coming out of the device.[paragraph break][italic type]This is the music recorded on the disc,[roman type] you murmur. [italic type]It is... it is trying to learn from disc.[roman type][paragraph break]";

say "A long array of spoken words -- many of which you never heard before, some guttural, others quite musical, mixed with ones from your own language -- closes the show. At the end, the green light vanishes, in its place a holographic image.[paragraph break]The last word from the speakers, the very voice of this station's main computer, you guess, is: 'LOGAN.'";

record "Play It Again, Ektor" as achieved;

else if the query is the golden disc:

say "The disc doesn't seem to be interesting to LOGAN anymore.";

else if logan is not knowing:

say "A ray coming from the ceiling scans [the query]. At the end a low beep, that reminds you a lot of the 'wrong answer' alarm of some television show.";

now the query is on the large cubic device;

say "LOGAN://'That looks like [a query]. I don't need it now.'".
